What Partnership Makes Possible: Essential Wealth For Every Stage In Life
Lisabella, a junior in high school, is thinking about life after graduation. She’s considering medical school and a career in dermatology, which would also present opportunities to run her own small business.
She has the vision and, thanks to an early-wealth building pilot program, she also has the capital.
As a participant in Ignite Futures Fund at Impact Charitable, Lisabella is one of 125 high school students who will receive a $20,000 investment account that, once they graduate, can be used for wealth-building purposes, including post-secondary education and training, investing in a business, buying a home or saving for retirement. The financial education that participants receive is intended to help them think about how the money in their investment accounts can be leveraged to help them build a strong financial foundation.
Gary is one of several partners – Dakota Foundation, Gates Family Foundation, GE Johnson Foundation, Goodman Philanthropies, the John and Margot Lane Foundation, Joseph Henry Edmondson Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Rose Community Foundation and the Windy Pines Foundation – funding Ignite Futures Fund in order to understand how early wealth-building accounts can impact a young person’s ability to create financial resilience, long-term prosperity and well-being.
Building wealth through the ownership of appreciating assets has been a central focus of our work for the past 50 years. And, it will remain a key strategy in our final chapter because 66% of Colorado families lack the level of wealth needed to be financially resilient.
Today, as Lisabella’s investment account grows in value, she is focused on typical teen priorities, like spending time with her best friend Bivi, taking photos and dreaming about her future.
