Portfolio Manager of The Dearfield Fund
Steven is a Portfolio Manager at the Dearfield Fund, an impact oriented private credit vehicle within Gary Ventures that expands pathways to homeownership and wealth building for first-time homebuyers through down payment assistance. His work spans investment management, valuation, investor relations, fund operations, and strategic execution. He has helped institutionalize the fund’s platform across reporting and valuation, legal and compliance, capital formation, operations, and external partnerships.
Steve was drawn to the impact sector because it offered a way to build on his commitment to service by widening access and opportunity through capital, while helping build durable systems that can hold up over time. His academic study of African American history under Dr. Komozi Woodard further shaped how he thinks about Dearfield’s work specifically, reinforcing his belief that access to capital and asset ownership remains one of the most durable pathways to generational wealth.
Before joining Gary, Steven worked in investment banking, advising on capital raises, M&A transactions and pre-IPO engagements. He gained buyside exposure through investment research focused on global macro & L/S equity strategies, and worked internationally on consulting projects, including facilitating conferences and managing relationships with senior leaders across industries.
Originally from Shenzhen and now based in Denver, Steve teaches financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and branding through Junior Achievement and mentors aspiring entrepreneurs through the Young Americans Center’s YoungBiz program. Outside of work, he enjoys photography, skiing, dance, soccer, F1 and supporting the creative community.
